Line confusion in spectroscopic surveys and its possible effects: shifts in Baryon Acoustic Oscillations position

چکیده
Roman Space Telescope will survey about 17 million emission-line galaxies over a range of redshifts. Its main targets are H$\alpha$ at low redshifts and [O III] high The estimate the redshift these with single line identification. This suggests that other may be misidentified as targets. In particular, it is hard to distinguish between H$\beta$ lines two close in wavelength hence photometric information not sufficient separate them reliably. Misidentifying emitter cause shift inferred radial position galaxy by approximately 90 Mpc/h. length scale similar Baryon Acoustic Oscillation (BAO) could broaden BAO peak, possibly introduce errors determining peak position. We qualitatively describe effect this new systematic further quantify lightcone simulation galaxies.

Self Calibration of Galaxy Bias in Spectroscopic Redshift Surveys of Baryon Acoustic Oscillations
Baryon acoustic oscillation (BAO) is a powerful probe on the expansion of the universe, shedding light on elusive dark energy and gravity at cosmological scales. BAO measurements through biased tracers of the underlying matter density field, as most proposals do, can reach high statistical accuracy. However, possible scale dependence in bias may induce non-negligible systematical errors, especi...
متن کاملBaryon Acoustic Oscillations
Observations of baryon acoustic oscillations (BAO) in the clustering of galaxies offer an attractive method for setting cosmological constraints. The physics of the BAO production is well understood, and it is hard to imagine that galaxy formation processes will significantly distort this large-scale signal. The large volume of the Universe and redshift range probed by proposed SKA surveys will...
متن کاملDark Energy Constraints from Baryon Acoustic Oscillations
Baryon acoustic oscillations (BAO) in the galaxy power spectrum allows us to extract the scale of the comoving sound horizon at recombination, a cosmological standard ruler accurately determined by the cosmic microwave background anisotropy data. We examine various issues important in the use of BAO to probe dark energy. We find that assuming a flat universe, and priors on Ωm, Ωmh , and Ωbh 2 a...
متن کاملHow to Reconstruct a Varying Speed of Light Signal from Baryon Acoustic Oscillations Surveys
We describe an alternative way to use future Baryon Acoustic Oscillation observations to perform non-mainstream research. We focus on the so-called Varying Speed of Light theories, in which the speed of light is made to vary in time. Using prescriptions from future BAO surveys (BOSS, DESI, WFirst-2.4 and SKA), we show that, within such surveys, a 1% Varying Speed of Light (VSL) signal could be ...
متن کاملForecasting the Dark Energy Measurement with Baryon Acoustic Oscillations: Prospects for the LAMOST surveys
The Large Area Multi-Object Spectroscopic Telescope (LAMOST) is a dedicated spectroscopic survey telescope being built in China, with an effective aperture of 4 meters and equiped with 4000 fibers. Using the LAMOST telescope, one could make redshift survey of the large scale structure (LSS). The baryon acoustic oscillation (BAO) features in the LSS power spectrum provide standard rulers for mea...
